After the 2008 financial crisis, funding for social programs decreased dramatically as countries tried to save their own economies. In addition, unemployment increased and in poor countries, people's purchasing power deceased. These links highlight two contrasting examples: *this article* features an innovative program that is actively decreasing malnutrition in Iraq. Conversely, *this article* highlights how ignoring current problems regarding hunger will lead to chronic hunger deficits in the future.
